1st off, we really like Thomas Sowell’s writings — hence his mug shot and link on the main page of this site. Here is what he said recently about “jolting the economy” “Jolting the Economy”
We have some observations of our own.
- Since when did the Economy become the Eco-”mommy” (oh, how true, the Greens are Eco-Mommies too). The omnipotent D.C. crowd has decided that “central planning” (which has a pretty horrid track record) is the best way to fix things. Their paternal instincts are to be lauded, but for 200+ years with capitalism run amok here in the states we have outpaced every other nation ever in existence in wealth creation.
- Since da Feds take about $3T of our dollars in taxes every year, and is larger than all of the top 10 biggest transnational companies combined, we have decided that that best thing D.C. could do is just return the non-military (non HLS, CIA, FBI) portion of their budget and take a year off. Enjoy! Yes, yes, keep the “elected” politicians, the basic judicial, executive, and legislative branches of government (the constitutionally permitted part of government) and pay their salaries, but all of the non-elected / non-military bureaucrats go on out placement — like many of us will be doing if things keep going the way they are. As they say, what comes around goes around. Its only “fair”.
Government has become way too big and the Fed “lifers” need to get the same perspective that we the plebes that pay their bills have. Nobody guarantees our jobs, and when we lose them, we go to find new ones! That’s the way it has worked well for a very long time.
So I think infusing our economy with ~ 1.5 T (i.e. simply returned to us that pay for it) would do wonders for the economy. Giving bureaucrats a year off to think about why their unconstitutional existence made sense in the first place would be therapeutic for all. Like how the roughly 22 constitutionally enumerated (see article
powers of the Fed translate into thousands of present day three/four/five letter Federal agencies?
